LOG: In Need of Assistance

York would be lying if he said he wasn't surprised that Delta had called him so soon to arrange to meet up again. That's three times in the last two weeks the man has called for company despite his insistence that he's a busy guy. Not that York's complaining, he enjoys Delta's company more each time they see each other, but he is surprised.

He's on time. Well, Delta seems to be making the effort, the least he can do is return the favor. Once he's inside, he removes his helmet and looks around. Common Ground is a good place, he's enjoyed it's coffee and food a fair few times, and of course it has the delicious, rich scent that comes with any good coffee shop.

Spotting Delta, he weaves through the tables towards him and sits down in the chair on the other side of the table, smiling. 'Hey there.'

God York was being reasonable...

"You won't go there and buy the cheapest things imaginable to keep you alive," Delta whispers.

So that's where this was coming from.

'No, I won't.' He's not going to deny it. 'But I've had to do that before. It's hard.'

[protective_logic]

"It is," Delta says, looking away from him. "It's what I can afford."

[depthlesslock]

'I get that. But since I'm gonna be buying it, I can get better brands. Once you're getting your own things, by all means, get what you want. Just this once, however, I'm stocking up my safe house with the food I buy.'

[protective_logic]

"I... okay," Delta says softly. Because he doesn't know how to convince York that he doesn't have to do this.

He knows he doesn't have to, but he wants to. Let him spoil his boyfriend for a bit, Delta's had it extra tough lately. 'Thank you.'

[protective_logic]

"Rice. Black beans. A bag of oranges. Other than that... I suppose anything will do."

[depthlesslock]

'I've got rice, I think. I'll double check. Any greens? I don't have any of those. Including the carrots now.'

[protective_logic]

"I can get buy with a multivitamin instead," Delta shrugs. "Until I can afford a bit more."

York feels like facepalming. 'I'm buying it.'

[protective_logic]

"Your point?" Delta asks.

[depthlesslock]

'You're getting greens.'

[protective_logic]

Delta shrugs and stands. "If you insist, then I cannot stop you."

[depthlesslock]

'You need good food,' he says.

[protective_logic]

"Never had it before, and I've made it here haven't I?"

[depthlesslock]

'Of course, but that doesn't mean you can never have it.'

[protective_logic]

"It's easier not to get used to things that I shouldn't expect," Delta counters.

[depthlesslock]

'You don't have to get used to it,' he says. 'Just enjoy it once in a while.'

[protective_logic]

Delta sighs. "If you insist, then I can't convince you otherwise."

But it was wrong to enjoy things the rest of his family couldn't have.

'Why are you so against this?' he asks, honestly at a loss.

[protective_logic]

"Because it's wrong for me to leave them and have things they can't," Delta says softly. "It's just... wrong."

[depthlesslock]

His expression softens as understanding floods through him. 'Oh, D.' And then he can't think of what else to say.

"I already have this space they don't. Privacy they don't. External support they don't," Delta lists off quietly. "Eating better than them... would be wrong."

[depthlesslock]

He opens his mouth, closes it again and thinks through what he actually wants to say. 'I can understand that. But... if things get better for you, you can help things get better for them?'

[protective_logic]

"That isn't necessarily true," Delta counters. "Good food for me does not benefit them at all. Not when it is given rather than something I bought myself through work. Because if I can afford good food on my own that means I'm giving the family a lot of money."
