LOG: In Need of Assistance

York would be lying if he said he wasn't surprised that Delta had called him so soon to arrange to meet up again. That's three times in the last two weeks the man has called for company despite his insistence that he's a busy guy. Not that York's complaining, he enjoys Delta's company more each time they see each other, but he is surprised.

He's on time. Well, Delta seems to be making the effort, the least he can do is return the favor. Once he's inside, he removes his helmet and looks around. Common Ground is a good place, he's enjoyed it's coffee and food a fair few times, and of course it has the delicious, rich scent that comes with any good coffee shop.

Spotting Delta, he weaves through the tables towards him and sits down in the chair on the other side of the table, smiling. 'Hey there.'

"I'm sorry," Delta sighs. "If I'm too much trouble... it wouldn't take long for me to pack up."

'What? Delta, no, of course you're not! Is that what you think? I swear I didn't mean it like that. Like, at all.'

[protective_logic]

Yes, that's what he thinks. He's only given York grief since waking.

"I didn't like your guns, I'm uncomfortable with so much space, I don't know how to handle you buying me food, and I insist on repaying you. You seem unhappy with that."

[depthlesslock]

'No sane civilian likes guns, you're not used to having so much space to yourself, or other people providing for you and it's apparently been drilled into you or else just part of who you are that you repay it when someone does you a favor.' He checks them off on his fingers. 'Everything you've done is completely understandable, Delta.'

[protective_logic]

"I... it was?" Delta asks shyly.

[depthlesslock]

'Of course,' he assures him, taking a careful step closer. 'Honestly, I was an idiot for thinking you'd just be totally cool with everything. Sorry for that.'

[protective_logic]

"You're not an idiot," Delta sighs. "It's just... different experiences."

[depthlesslock]

'Yeah, but I should have thought more about about where you were coming from.'

[protective_logic]

"You have no basis from which to think like that," Delta points out very carefully. "And so I don't want to force that on you."

[depthlesslock]

'How do you know that?' he returns quietly.

[protective_logic]

"Because you don't have seven siblings abandoned by your parents and a missing older brother. You didn't throw out your legal guardian when your older brother turned eighteen to protect your family," Delta hazards to guess.

[depthlesslock]

'Holy shit, you did that?' The words are out of his mouth before he can stop them. Damn, that guy must have been bad. 'All the respect to you and your brother then.'

[protective_logic]

"Omega threw the man out," Delta answers simply.

[depthlesslock]

'I'm sure he deserved it.' Delta doesn't sound in the least bit regretful.

[protective_logic]

"You have no idea," Delta confirms, and from his tone he has no intention of discussing it.

[depthlesslock]

He takes the hint and drops it, making note of it being a sensitive area and to leave it alone unless offered.

'What are you hungry for?' he asks instead.

[protective_logic]

Meat. Chicken. But he smiles. "Whatever you can think of."

[depthlesslock]

He's not going to push. 'Any dietary requirements? Coeliac? Lactose intolerant?'

[protective_logic]

"I have stomach issues that make spicy hard to handle," Delta shrugs. "I can't afford the medication for it anymore."

[depthlesslock]

'No spice, got it.' That's easy enough. If he just gets a variety and then Delta can do with it what he wants.

[protective_logic]

"Maybe... also something for us to eat together?"

[depthlesslock]

He smiles. 'That would be nice,' he says. 'Anything in particular?'

[protective_logic]

"Is there something you really like to eat?" Delta asks.

[depthlesslock]

'Does coffee count?' he asks, grinning. 'I'll eat most things.'

[protective_logic]

"Then... show me your favorite food?" Delta suggests.
