LOG: Something He Might Regret

What: Delta calls the number, Gets some coffee

He's been playing with the piece of paper for three days now. Ever since it went into his pocket, Delta has been fiddling with the number. He tells himself it's because of the offer of good coffee. Tells himself it's because the week has been a strained one at home. Tells himself a lot of things. But come Wednesday when he finds he's got a few hours that could charitably be called free before he has to go grocery shopping, Delta gets the comm number out and calls. Waits through the prompt and then leaves his message.

"Hey. It's Delta. We met on Sunday at Smithson's Helmet Shop? Anyway, you gave me your number and offered to buy me real coffee if I had some free time. And I could sure go for a cup right about now. So... Call me if you can find the time in the next few hours and I'll meet you there?"

"Really good," Delta smiles to himself, a bit embarrassed by his behavior. "Are... they going to want me gone now that I don't have anything?"

'Hmm? Nah, they're fine with patrons hanging around to chat as long as it's not too busy.' York doesn't just come here for coffee.

[protective_logic]

"So when you invited me here, it wasn't just to have coffee," Delta notes at last. "It was to chat, as it were."

[depthlesslock]

'Yep.' He pops the "p", leaning back in his seat and smiling across the table.

[protective_logic]

"I'm dense, aren't I?" Delta laughs lightly.

[depthlesslock]

'Not really,' he replies. 'Just a bit out of your comfort zone.'

[protective_logic]

"More than a bit," Delta grumbles. And then blushes. "I'm sorry. I didn't know what this was, coming here. I'm not good at socializing."

[depthlesslock]

'If your lack of social skills is as bad as you say, then I think you're doing pretty well,' he admits. He really is cute when he blushes.

[protective_logic]

Delta can't help but look up, smirking. "I'm a quick study."

[depthlesslock]

York tilts his head. 'Are you? I must be a slow reader then.'

[protective_logic]

"Why is that?" Is he not getting it quickly enough? But he's trying now!

[depthlesslock]

'Because you seem complex enough to me.' Okay, so that wasn't one of his best lines.

[protective_logic]

Delta just stares at the man, incredulous. "Really? Please tell me that you didn't just say that."

'Yeah, that was a bad one,' he agrees, running his hand through his hair and smiling ruefully.

[protective_logic]

A bad one? Bad what?

Honestly, Delta is not certain he'd even remotely want to ask. So instead he fiddles with his empty cup of coffee.

"So... tell me about yourself?"

[depthlesslock]

He's going to have to think up better ways to say the man isn't dense.

'Sure. Name's York, I'm twenty six and I can hold my breath for nearly two minutes.'

[protective_logic]

Still Delta looks at him, a bit incredulous. "That's it? Nothing about what you do? No last name? Just that you can hold your breath and that you're older than me?"

Older than Omega too.

[depthlesslock]

He chuckles. 'I'm a locksmith,' he says. 'Stems from my love of puzzles, I used to be able to break into the lockers in highschool. How old are you then?'

[protective_logic]

A locksmith. Yes, that seemed fitting for someone who seemed to intent upon prying things from Delta that he had no intentions of sharing.

"Twenty-three," he provided when the question came up. "Though my birthday is nearing."

[depthlesslock]

'Happy early birthday then,' he says lightly. 'Mine's not until October.'

[protective_logic]

"Sounds like a pleasant enough time to have it," Delta answers, mostly because he doesn't know how else to react to the situation other than to look at his watch and see if he has to go yet.

[depthlesslock]

'Yeah, it's not bad,' agrees.

He catches Delta looking at his watch. Aw, is he boring him? More likely annoying him. Or he has to be somewhere. Or some combination of the three. 'Do you need to go?'

[protective_logic]

"I have to go to the grocery store," Delta admits nervously. "I need to get things for dinner."

[depthlesslock]

'Not a problem, it was good meeting up with you,' he says. 'And if you want to do this again, just give me a call. Or if you just want a chat buddy.'

[protective_logic]

Delta smiles thankfully as he stands. "Thank you for this, York. I believe... I may in fact do that at some point. But I warn you against getting your hopes up. I'm quite busy."

Any time he spent not doing house work or school work on his job was time spent taking food out of his family's mouth. Not the greatest bit, but he could have made money this hour. Can he really excuse not doing so?
