LOG: In Need of Assistance

York would be lying if he said he wasn't surprised that Delta had called him so soon to arrange to meet up again. That's three times in the last two weeks the man has called for company despite his insistence that he's a busy guy. Not that York's complaining, he enjoys Delta's company more each time they see each other, but he is surprised.

He's on time. Well, Delta seems to be making the effort, the least he can do is return the favor. Once he's inside, he removes his helmet and looks around. Common Ground is a good place, he's enjoyed it's coffee and food a fair few times, and of course it has the delicious, rich scent that comes with any good coffee shop.

Spotting Delta, he weaves through the tables towards him and sits down in the chair on the other side of the table, smiling. 'Hey there.'

That makes him look up.

'Are you sure? I don't want you feeling uncomfortable or anything.'

"Getting a place won't be easy, especially on short notice, right?" Delta sighs.

'Well, yes, but you said you didn't want to...' He trails off with a vague hand gesture.

[protective_logic]

Delta rolls his eyes. "Keep up, York."

[depthlesslock]

'Hey, okay!' he holds his hands up in surrender. 'Any, like, conditions?'

[protective_logic]

"I... will you be there?" Say no. Please say no. Or say he can have a couch. Anything else would be awkward.

[depthlesslock]

'Not unless you want me there. I usually sleep at the base with my team.'

[protective_logic]

"Team?" Delta asks, confused.

[depthlesslock]

'It's much better to be part of a group where there's a variety of skillsets and you can watch each others backs on missions,' he explains. 'Plus you can make good friends.'

[protective_logic]

Friends. A concept he's not the best with. "Good for you. I'm glad there are people there for you. What about your family?"

[depthlesslock]

'Yeah, me to,' he agrees, smiling at the thought of all the fun he's had with Wash, Maine, North and all the others. Until the next question. 'They're... I haven't seen them for a while.'

"I'm sorry," Delta says immediately. He can't fathom not seeing his family.

[depthlesslock]

He shrugs. 'For the best.' He misses them, of course he does, but it's too dangerous to go back. 'I made a new family here.'

[protective_logic]

"Family belongs together," he sighs. It isn't that easy, though. Life isn't simple.

[depthlesslock]

'That depends on the family,' he points out. 'Though mine wasn't one of those. Sometimes it's just safer to stay away.'

[protective_logic]

Maybe he's right? Delta bites his lip. Maybe it's true for him as well.

Fuck, he's gone and fucked it up again. 'I... Sorry. I didn't mean it for you.'

[protective_logic]

"No, it's... it's okay. Maybe you're right."

[depthlesslock]

'D... You'll still see them right? Not Omega, but the others?'

[protective_logic]

"I hope so," Delta admits. "I really... I wouldn't know what to do otherwise."

[depthlesslock]

'You're very close to them,' he says, smiling slightly.

[protective_logic]

"I love them, limitlessly," Delta sighs. "I've only ever known a life with them."

[depthlesslock]

'Tell me about them?' he offers.

[protective_logic]

"My family?" Delta looks up in shock. He wants to hear about that? Wow. Uh... "Where do I even start?"

[depthlesslock]

'Youngest or oldest?' he suggests. 'Or... Second oldest. No wait, third. You're the second oldest, right?'
