LOG: In Need of Assistance

York would be lying if he said he wasn't surprised that Delta had called him so soon to arrange to meet up again. That's three times in the last two weeks the man has called for company despite his insistence that he's a busy guy. Not that York's complaining, he enjoys Delta's company more each time they see each other, but he is surprised.

He's on time. Well, Delta seems to be making the effort, the least he can do is return the favor. Once he's inside, he removes his helmet and looks around. Common Ground is a good place, he's enjoyed it's coffee and food a fair few times, and of course it has the delicious, rich scent that comes with any good coffee shop.

Spotting Delta, he weaves through the tables towards him and sits down in the chair on the other side of the table, smiling. 'Hey there.'

'Excuse me, you started that one,' he says, acting offended while grinning as he leads Delta through to the small kitchen.

The kitchen is actually less impressively equipped than the one at home, but the had slowly been building up an arsenal of used and worn pots that were what was needed to feed eight.

"I'm guessing you aren't big on food prep."

'I'm a really bad cook,' he admits, smiling ruefully and rubbing the back of his neck with his free hand. 'I can make rice, pasta, toast, beverages and cold food, but that's about it.'

"Maybe I'll cook for you sometime," Delta offers with a soft smile. "I may not make the best food, but I can make a lot of things."

[depthlesslock]

'Gotta be better than me,' he says chuckling. 'Sure, if you'd like. I've only got non-perishables in at the moment, but I can get you some fresh stuff easy enough. Just let me know what you need. ...And that's for you in general, not just a possible meal for the two of us.'

"What? No," Delta dismisses. "You can't do that!"

'Why not?' he asks. 'You kind of need the food.'

[protective_logic]

"You can't... I... I'm supposed to be supporting myself. This is already so much."

Does York forget that this is about proving he can do it for himself.

[depthlesslock]

'Not even to get you started? You said you barely have any money, this would just be enough to last a couple of days.' He's not going to make sure his boyfriend has a roof over his head only for him to starve.

[protective_logic]

"Oh," he says. That's a good point. "I guess... I do need help until I find a better job."

[depthlesslock]

'You know, it's okay to need a bit of help,' he says gently. 'No one's going to hold it against you. Or at least, they shouldn't.'

[protective_logic]

"If I wanted help I'd be home," Delta points out, or at leas tpoints out what would be argued to him.

[depthlesslock]

'And you've only just struck out on your own,' he returns. 'With limited money at that. Managing completely on your own would be a damn hard struggle.'

[protective_logic]

"I've always known how to take care, to make things stretch," Delta answers. He was going to buy a bag of rice for one thing.

[depthlesslock]

'I'm sure you have. But you need greens so you don't get scurvy or whatever, and at the moment, there aren't any in this house.' He's going to get stuff anyway.

[protective_logic]

"It's called fruit," Delta shrugs. He can handle that.

York isn't going to let him win, and that's... almost comforting.

[depthlesslock]

'And vegetables,' he reminds him. 'I think all I've got is a few carrots and you probably don't want those by now.' He hasn't been here in over a month.

[protective_logic]

"Oh dear me," Delta sighs. "Tell me they aren't moldy."

[depthlesslock]

'I haven't checked,' he admits. 'But probably. I haven't been back here in a while.'

[protective_logic]

"You're cleaning the kitchen," Delta informs him simply as he moves to look at the cabinets.

[depthlesslock]

'Wait, what? D, come on, it's not that bad,' he whines. 'Just a few moldy carrots.'

[protective_logic]

"You're doing it," Delta repeats. "You make the mess you, clean it. My five year old siblings understand that."

[depthlesslock]

'S'my house,' he grumbles, but he knows he's going to clean up anyway. Delta has what he suspects would be a very effective Mom voice when used at full force.

[protective_logic]

Not that York should ever, every say that to him. But Delta is a mother. To his family.

"Thanks," Delta answers, knowing York will listen.

'Yeah yeah,' he says, waving one hand, but he's smiling. This is a side to Delta he hasn't seen before, the homely side. It's interesting and... not exactly amusing, but it makes him feel happy to see it.
